Unisys works with some of the largest government organization in the US. Vlamis has been using maps in BI applications since the 11g release of Oracle Busines! s Intelligence. Unisys and Vlamis are using maps as a key portion of the interface for a project for the US Department of Agriculture. In this application, the USDA displays loan data across the country using maps. These maps convey dense information intuitively. We will cover some of the challenges encountered during this implementation, including:

• Selecting a spatial data provider

• Selecting the right size for conveying maps

• Determining how much detail to show for each zoom level

• Determining what measures to display on maps and how to display those measures
