Pioneer Balloon Company is a manufacturer of latex and foil party balloons headquartered in Wichita, KS. Since their founding in 1917, Pioneer has grown into an international company with a passion for sharing the magic and wonder of balloons across the globe.
Pioneer Balloon Company had been running an Oracle Business intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) implementation with multiple dashboards for many years. They used Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) to migrate nightly their data from JD Edwards to their data warehouse stored in an Oracle database. Over time, the system had become less reliable, sometimes being updated and sometimes not. They wanted to simplify their update routines.
They wanted to move to the Oracle Cloud and be on the latest technology, migrating to the latest release of ODI, from OBIEE to Oracle Analytics Cloud, and from the Oracle Database to Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW).
The Vlamis Solution
Vlamis was able to move Pioneer’s entire OBIEE implementation to the Oracle cloud very easily. The dashboards and reports were migrated as-is. The database was migrated from the Oracle database to ADW. Because of the differences in capabilities between releases and the way some of the mappings were constructed, Vlamis ended up changing several of the ODI mappings when upgrading ODI. Mappings were simplified to aid in future maintenance.
As a result of the migration, Pioneer can reliably update their data every day and view the production and orders from the prior day each morning, without having to wait for the IT department to manually run update routines. Pioneer is also on a platform where they don’t have to worry about backing up the data, applying software updates, or maintaining the system. It just runs!
Upgrading Pioneer involved the following technologies:
- Oracle Database -> Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse
- Oracle Data Integrator 11 -> Oracle Data Integrator 12 Marketplace image
- OBIEE 11g -> Oracle Analytic Cloud
